Gloogie
Sauce
This is based on McDonald's Big Mac
Special Sauce. It's a mixture of ketchup,
mayonaise, relish and onion to put on sandwiches or
hamburgers. Its use on sandwiches causes the sandwiches to
be known as Gloogies.
The first English usage of the word is in Twelfth Night,
Act I, Scene III in which Sir Andrew in conversation with
Sir Toby Belch says, “...but I am a great eater of
beef with gloogie sauce and I believe that does harm to my
wit.” From the Old French glugier, to spread
sauce on, from the Latin gluguis, sauce by way of
the ancient Greek glugi--savory seasoning.
